Good Shepherd Council 7676
Gathering the Flock
The Council was originally named FATHER TERRENCE FITZPATRICK Council and out of respect for our priests there is no significant reason to change the name. The common usage of Good Shepherd Council is in keeping with our vision of Gathering the Flock and links directly to Fr Fitzpatrick who on July 24, 1882 was named to be the first Parish Priest of St. Mary's Chesterville and gathered the local farm community in faith to construct a rectory and a Catholic School to ensure the area youth were tutored in their faith. 1882 was of course the date when the Knights of Columbus was formed. As Fr McGivney faced greater challenges of not only gathering his flock but protecting them from the anti-catholic hostilities that prevailed against Catholic immigrants of the eastern US. They were each Good Shepherds of their flock.
State Deputy Dan Heffernan approved the reactivation of Council 7676 formerly of Chesterville and transfer of that council to District 20. It is in the process of gathering membership from across Ontario by transfer. This council is a welcoming home for members of Ontario heritage who are spread around the globe or are still local but who do not have the time to commit to parish council meetings or program activities. This council has no intentions of competing for new candidates with any Kingston Council but can assist councils in reducing the size of the roster upon which liability insurance and recruitment quotas are calculated. Parish councils can devote attention to the active members and council 7676 will shepherd the less active members.
